Question & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions about the Fundraising Campaign

What is the goal of the TOGETHER Campaign?

This $11 million capital campaign is required along with government funding to enable Maxville Manor to expand and renovate to meet the need for long-term care beds and service locally, and across Eastern Ontario.

Why must we raise money for Maxville Manor to redevelop?

The Ministry of Long-Term Care does not fund upfront construction costs of long-term care homes and pays for minimum long-term care based on a scale which is well below the Manor’s current standards. One of our core principles is that we do not want to lower our standards of operation.

How will funds be raised in the community?

Charitable donations will be sought and secured from individuals, companies, service clubs and community groups. Fundraising activities and events will be organized to give every member of the community a chance to participate and support the campaign.

What will my donation contribute to?

Your donation will directly contribute to the costs associated with the plan, design, labour, and supplies required to redevelop the Manor.

I have donated to previous campaigns; will I continue to be recognized?

Yes, donations currently recognized on plaques at the Manor will be recognized on a new donor wall in our redeveloped home.

I don’t live in Maxville, why should I support Maxville Manor?

Maxville Manor is 1 of only 3 not-for-profit homes in the Eastern Counties which are highly sought after. As the need for long-term care increases, the geographical area of the residents that we service expands. To date, over 40,000 seniors sit on wait lists in Ontario for long-term care beds therefore securing a bed can mean living further from family and friends than one would hope. Even if you do not live in Maxville, you, or someone you love may seek our services. Our staff, residents, outreach participants and residents living in our senior’s apartments come from Glengarry, Stormont, Dundas, Prescott – Russell, Ottawa and beyond.

What is the difference between a for profit and a not-for-profit long-term care (LTC) home?

Long-term care homes that operate for-profit prioritize shareholders first and foremost. Their goal is to provide as much money to their owners and shareholders as possible and they often do so by following the minimum requirements for the Ministry both operationally and in their capital programs.

Not-for-profit homes prioritize residents and focus on delivering an enhanced level of care. Maxville Manor residents benefit from the re-investment in care, approximately 20% more hours of direct daily care per resident compared to for-profit homes, our innovative and unmatched service delivery model, and countless community services made available by Maxville Manor.

What is the difference between a long-term care home and a retirement home?

A retirement home is a community of older adults who can choose to enjoy a fully independent lifestyle with the option to receive some care and personalized services as they age. Focused on flexibility and independence, retirement homes offer a lot of choice. There is no government subsidy in retirement homes, they are completely paid for by the resident.

A long-term care (LTC) home is a place where supervised care is provided 24/7. Those who qualify for long-term care are seniors and older adults who need a high level of care, require continuous supervision, or can no longer take care of themselves independently (e.g., eating, bathing, dressing). The main difference between a long-term care home and a retirement home is that LTC is subsidized by the government.

If you do not raise $11 million, will the project move forward?

We are confident that with your support we will raise the funds. If funds are not raised urgently, the project will be delayed and could be impacted by inflated rates.

When long-term care services are required, how does the application process work?

Long-term care homes do not manage the wait list. To access LTC, you must apply through Ontario Health at Home. They will complete most of the application, usually during an in-person meeting with you. You are responsible for completing the choice form, where you can select up to five homes, in order of preference. You can do this during the in-person meeting if you have already researched homes and know where you want to apply, or you can complete it afterwards.

If I support Maxville Manor, does that guarantee a bed for me or my loved one when we need care?

If you give money to the Manor, it does not guarantee a bed for you or your loved one when they require long- term care as the waitlist is managed outside of Maxville Manor’s control. The next on the waitlist is determined by need and priority.

That said, by redeveloping we will expand and increase the number of residents that we serve and increase the likelihood that a bed will become available for you or your loved one.
