Glen Garden Village History

Glen Garden Village was started in 1989 by the Corporation of Maxville Manor, a non-profit organization serving the needs of seniors in the Village of Maxville and surrounding area. It was developed in response to a stated need from the community for more alternatives than traditional apartment settings.

Glen Garden Village is located in scenic Maxville, only an hour from Ottawa and Montreal. The Village of Maxville has a population of just over 800 people, and is located in North Glengarry County. The community has a rich and strong heritage, having originally been settled by Loyalists over 100 years ago.

Today, as in the past, the area is primarily agricultural. Maxville serves as the community centre for the region. Local residents make full use of a 3 surface curling rink, and a large sports complex with a skating rink and beautiful fair grounds. This complex is home every year to the world famous Maxville Fair, and Glengarry Highland Games, which celebrates the proud Celtic heritage of the area.
